New computer

I have finally purchased a new mac… an iMac 17″ 2.0Ghz model, that fits perfectly on my desk!

Have been messing around with Google Earth and it is immense, no real problems that I have encountered yet, but there’s still time.

I can now properly edit video and record music on GarageBand without it messing up and stopping all of the time!

Tis all for now.

Holidays…

Christmas holidays have finally arrived, so I might be able to spend a bit more time on the old website…

Google Earth for Mac update

After talking to a friend who has OS 10.4 installed, he had no problem in running Google Earth for Mac, the only comment he had was that it is seriously memory intensive, which I suppose, is not really a surprise.

Google Earth for Mac?

After hearing various news items on podcasts and by searching myself on the interweb, I found out that a non-public beta of Google Earth for Mac had been released. After finding it (which didn’t prove easy) I was gutted to discover that it wouldn’t work… It probably needed Tiger (and being me, I haven’t upgraded), so when the app searched for the file /System/Library/Frameworks/Quartz.framework/Versions/A/Quartz and couldn’t find it, it just crashed, telling me the above in the eroor log. Does this file only exist in 10.4, or is the beta slightly screwed up. Probably the former is the case!

Anyway, just wait till I upgrade to a better Mac…

A guestbook has arrived…

Having trawled the interweb for wonderful things to add to this site, I thought upon the marvellous idea of a guestbook, so people can comment on the site, without relating it to a specific topic or post.

Now, after reading this, please post a nice constructive comment in my fresh new guestbook and be the 1st one to do so.

Apple-Intel Rumours

Ever since Steve Job’s announcement that Apple will eventually be switching to Intel (he personally wanted to in 2000), there have been many speculations as to when the first model will come out. Some rumours are citing that there may be a release of a Intel powered iBook (possibly a 13.3″ widescreen model) at the Macworld in January.

At roughly the same time as the Macworld Expo in January, Intel will be releasing their Yonah processor:-

Intel’s Yonah is a dual-core chip based on the 65nm fabrication process. Yonah will also mark the first launch with Intel’s new strategy in place – performance per watt.

Now wasn’t that Apple’s reason for switching to Intel…performance per watt. I sense a correlation here, Apple and Intel have the same processor goals, this Yonah processor may be the first one used in a Mac!

All we can do is wait…

An image that describes Apple…

Looking through various sites, I remembered how great an picture this was showing what Apple is all about - simplicity, immense design and ease of use. This picture sums it all up : If you haven’t a clue of what or where this is from, it is from the Apple “One More Thing…” event back in October this year where Steve unveiled the new iMac with FrontRow and integrated iSight. This picture is of the remote control from the iMac, along with the remote controls of two other brands, Gateway and HP respectively. Aside from the obvious difference in size, the number of buttons on the remote can be observed… Notice the non-Apple remotes have 40 or more buttons where as the iMac one has just 6.
Doesn’t that show you something about Apple, doesn’t that make you think that some things do not necessarily need to be as complicated as they are (and vice versa, some simple things can do more things than they seem…). I suppose this image shows how eloquant Apple’s design is, what the idea behind the company is and why they really are the best.

If only other manufacturers just put a small amount of thought into their products…

Not much to say…

Having not much to say at the moment, I will not say too much.
I need a new computer, hopefully I should get a dual G5 or even better, a quad!
Been realising that Radiohead’s The Bends is an extraordinary album, although not as good as OK Computer, it does have some shockingly good songs on it. Speaking of Radiohead, Hail To The Thief is a fine album if you can get into it, it takes a while as it has a seemingly different vibe to it, especially with the almost trance drumbeats.

Looking forward to the MacWorld thing in January, hopefully some nice kit will be released……….

Finally December is here…

Yeah, December has finally arrived, let the funereal durge of Winter begin……

Houses Of The Holy - Led ZeppelinBeen listening to ‘Houses Of The Holy’ a lot, its taken some time, but I think that this has to be the best Led Zeppelin album around. The only questionable song is that odd Reggae one, ‘D’yer Maker,’ it really doesn’t go with the album at all. The live cuts of these songs are remarkably good aswell, especially ‘The Rain Song’ on ‘The Song Remains The Same’ (a live album and also a soundtrack for a film).

Gettin’ late now, so i should go…
