Radiohead, definitely the best…

As you may have noticed from earlier postings, or even musings of this site, I attended a Radiohead concert last night. It was absolutely immense, an amazing experience that I suggest you try…

There were two warmup bands before Radiohead, a strangely weird 3 piece band called Deerhoof, who by the way had one insane drummer, with a 2-piece drum kit and some completely trashed cymbals…

Beck was the other warmup act, who were really decent and set a nice standard for Radiohead, although they hardly compared when Radiohead started to get going… One of the most amazing things about the Beck act was the mini-stage complete with singing and playing mini-Beck band members, a really great addition to the concert.

But the main thing though, was Radiohead… They kicked off their 2 and a bit hour, 24 song set with the opener to OK Computer, Airbag. It was a monstrous start, and just the song to get the crowd going after an hour wait due to the complex Radiohead kit set up. with the 2 racks of guitars, pianos, original Fender Rhodes piano, and the Ondes Martenot that Jonny played. The rest of the set went on much like (or more like exactly like) what it says on ateaseweb.com - www.ateaseweb.com/news/archive/2006/08/radiohead_live_10.php

The first few songs though were especially rough, especially at the front of the crowd, Thom had to stop halfway through Morning Bell (the Kid A version with the 7/8 drum beat) to tell people to calm down and tell them that there were clubs around the corner where they could do that kind of thing, as the Rocksteady Security pulled people out of the crowd.

Overall though, it was certainly one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to and I did manage to get some pics and videos on my old camera though they may be a bit blurry and fuzzed out, but who cares… For the moment anyway I still need to find the USB cable to transfer the pictures… So you’ll have to wait just a bit longer to hear or see any clips and pics…

How to F*!k up a Presentation

I do apoligise for the language contained in this post as it may not be terrible tasteful…

Tutorial: How To Completely Fuck Up A Presentation…

    Use Powerpoint…
    Use Powerpoint…
    Use Powerpoint…
Use one of the themes in Powerpoint
Use a background supplied with Powerpoint
Use a colour scheme recommended by Powerpoint
Use anything remotely to do with Powerpoint

And did i mention that this also applies to the OpenOffice.org equivalent of Powerpoint, not that I can remember its name, but although I think the folks at Openoffice.org are doing a good job of providing open source alternatives to Microsoft applications (or should I call them programs) in a Microsoft dominated environment, they should really think outside the box just a wee bit more and not just copy one of the worst designed programs out there, with probably the most tortured user interface around making it seemlessly impossible to create anything original using the program.

May I recommend and bring your attention to a very brilliant program, which is miles better and way easier to use than Powerpoint, Keynote. Just give it a go, it even imports and exports to .ppt files for the really desparate…

WWDC things

In case you weren’t fullly aware, there was and still is a WWDC going on over in San Francisco, and as a result of a keynote there by Steve Jobs, some more Apple products have been released and more features of Leopard have been shown. The Mac Pro, a quad core Xeon workstation has been released with millions of different combinations to suit all. If you really want to know more, take a trip over to www.apple.com and watch the keynote.

More Leopard things (I say more, I didn’t think I knew any before) were also announced including the amazing Time Machine program, won’t that take 1000s of Gbs of HD space tho? The dude over at Bartelme.at did a nice roundup of the nwe leopard features, have a look here.

Other things were announced such as Dashcode, but that had been going around for months now so it wasn’t really too much of a surprise.

The crazy thing was though that there was no ‘And one more thing…’ and there was hardly very much info about the iPod line… Maybe there is going to be a new installment in the Pre-Christmas season…
